is your blog no comments?

Don’t even know the answer, nor know where that setting is. But I do allow users to ask questions, and I can choose to publish the answer, like this.  I also allow reader submissions, they just require my approval. ~fogjogblog

{ victory is ours }
Deck garden, day 48.  They “fixed” the back deck and told us we could not keep our plants on it.  We still do, we just move them around so they don’t sit in the same place, and sometimes (especially if the landlord shows up) we bring them inside for afternoon sun in the front windows.  {photo: (soon to be) Sweet Golden bell pepper, zucchini, Anaheim pepper, cherry tomato.}

Still can’t believe there is a food truck called Mama Cass. Apparently the owner’s name is Cass, but still. Even if the way the original Mama Cass (may she RIP) died is just folklore, hearing her name does NOT make me want to eat.

{ Pasion }
In between a Bastille Day quiche, and a Monday Chicken Tikka Masala (neither were quite picture worthy - need to throw that ‘I’m not having a wedding shower’ so we can magically have better looking dishware to showcase these culinary delights), was this beautiful plate from our date night at Pasion in San Francisco.  Can’t get enough of the seafood at this place.  The ceviches are out of this world.  Or at least hemisphere.  They also serve some of the best grass-fed beef.  We had your typical SF July night out, complete with hat, scarf, and heavy jacket.

“Kathrine Switzer entered and completed the Boston Marathon in 1967, five years before women were officially allowed to compete in it….Race official Jock Semple attempted to remove her from the race, and is noted to have shouted, “Get the hell out of my race and give me those numbers.” However, Switzer’s boyfriend Tom Miller, who was running with her, shoved Semple aside and sent him flying. The photographs taken of the incident made world headlines.” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kathrine_Switzer

{ What not to do if your significant other is from New York }
Assignment: find or create a decent homemade pizza dough recipe.  The one pictured above sufficed for dinner last night, thanks only to the homemade tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella and veggies (some from the garden).  But, the dough was too dense.  Which can ruin the whole experience.  Rookie mistake: was in a hurry and searched ‘pizza dough no yeast’, used the first one that came up, because the first several reviews were positive.  Only when it was in the oven, did I have the 15 minutes to scroll down and read all the reviews.  Like the guy who said, “don’t make this if your boyfriend is from New York”.  Damn.  Next time I will do the right thing and use a recipe with yeast, and either make my own based on trial and error, or use another person’s recipe but read more of the reviews.  Lesson learned.

{ deck garden, day 23 }
 Our building has been asking for a new deck and stairs for years, as ours is rotting. Of course, 23 days after we put in our deck garden, they tell us they are finally giving us a new deck. It is bittersweet; of course I want a new safer deck, but moving our garden in its infancy scares me.  The options are: downstairs on the ground level, where pests will be a problem, or inside in the front of the house, with west and south facing windows, where I’m afraid it won’t get as much {fog filtered} light as it’s been used to.

{ Summer casserole }
(In my neighborhood, summer is a synonym for fog.)  Nothing precise about this recipe.  We make it all the time.  Can’t take credit for making it this time, but will take credit for eating it.  Eggplant, 3 kinds of summer squash, homemade marinara (diced tomatoes, tomato paste, garlic, onion, bay leaf, basil, brown sugar, salt, pepper, olive oil), feta, parmesan.  (ricotta or mozzarella too, when we have it - not pictured).  Baked in cast iron skillet (covered for first 45 mins) for about an hour at 375ish.  Serve with pasta (and more of the same marinara) on the side.

{ Escaping the fog on the bay side }
Grass-fed New York steaks on the grill.  Add wine, baguette, and salad.  Enjoy.
